Farm to Table at the Farmstead Market in Murrieta, California As I had mentioned in my Salmon Steak recipe posting this week, my last night in the Temecula Valley ended on a great glass of Spanish wine from the Farmstead Market.  A family owned “hybrid marketplace” combining natural and organic foods along with traditional items found in most chain supermarkets. Most of their produce is grown on their 3-arce farm and harvested daily from their farm in next town over in Wildomar and a handful of produce in also harvested from the small on-site gardens that surround the store, as well! Their “fresh from the garden” promise runs through their selection of fresh seafood as well where you’ll find whole in-season fish that is of the highest sustainability rating possible.  Their meat department is antibiotic and hormone free and they will cut to order upon request. They also have a full-service deli that offers vegan and gluten selections, most of which are made from scratch on site.  I absolutely love this market. It reminds me of the road-side markets in Napa Valley, CA. The backyard garden, where they harvest some of the produce, is beautifully landscaped. There are fig and olive trees lining the garden boxes and grapevines cascading over the fences outlining the property. At the end of the garden is a good sized patio with a stone hearth fire place.
