Let’s make Margherita Pizza on Naan Bread!
I love pizza, who doesn’t? But staying away from the heavy dough, cheeses and oils makes it really hard to enjoy the full-bodied flavor of a traditional pizza without all the fat and calories. Oh, sure you can have ONE slice of inexpensive and tasty COSTCO pizza for 718 calories and 34 grams of fat. 34 grams of fat?! But who eats just one slice of pizza? Maybe a 5 year old. So, how do you eat pizza without all the guilt, fat and calories? Okay, COSTCO pizza is a really large pizza. The calories and fat for an average 14″ medium pizza among the top five pizza chains is 286.8 calories and 14.2 grams of fat. But remember, this is the average 14″ MEDIUM pizza. Many times we are ordering pizza for a group, so a large pizza is what most people order and eat. So this means every more fat and calories. So maybe the COSTCO pizza calories and fat isn’t to far from the calories and fat most of us are eating. Yikes!
In general, “The more dough the pizza has, the more fat, calories, and carbohydrates there are in each slice.” So how do you have pizza without the guilt, fat and calories? Know what you are eating. Make the pizza yourself and make it in half the time it takes to pick up the phone, order and wait for the delivery person to bring you semi-hot pizza with the processed parmesan cheese and stale red pepper flakes. Just say’en. . . And don’t forget the tip!
OR, you can eat one entire 8″ personal Margherita Pizza with Pepperoni on Stone Fire Naan bread for for about 517 calories and only 12.3 grams of fat. And, if you only eat half of this pizza you are at 258 calories and only 6.15 grams of fat! That means you can eat pizza for lunch and dinner and still have “room” for a low-calorie dessert! Yeees!
So, here’s my quick and easy, quilt-free, “lower-fat” and calorie Margherita pizza on Naan bread (with pepperoni). I have use my low-fat, low-calorie marinara sauce for this recipe. You can find it here.

- 1 package of Naan Stone Fire flatbreads (2 in a package)
- 3 pepperoni slices cut in 4th's
- 2 ounces mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 or less Marinara Sauce (3/4 cup will thinly cover 2 - 8" flatbreads)
- 6 cloves of roasted garlic smashed
- 1/8 teaspoon of chili pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon shaved or grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees (I like my bread more crispy so I se the oven to 475).
- Prepare the toppings for the pizza.
- Place the Naan bread on a cooke-style cooling rack for a crispier crust or a pizza or cookie sheet for a softer crust.
- Spread the roasted garlic on the Naan bread.
- Place the 2 ounces of quartered mozzarella cheese over the flat bread, distributing evenly.
- Then, spoon a thin layer of marinara sauce over the Naan bread (add more if you prefer a heavier sauced pizza).
- Place the 2 ounces of quartered mozzarella cheese over the flat bread, distributing evenly.
- Stack the pepperoni and cut into quarters and place evenly over the Naan bread. As you can see, there is pepperoni at almost every bite.
- Bake the Naan Pizza for 3-7 minutes, depending on your desired crispiness.
- While the pizza bakes, cut the basil.
- Stack the 2 basil leaves and roll them tightly together.
- Cut the rolled basil thinly to make ribbons.
- Add the parmesan cheese and hot pepper flakes (optional).
- Remove the pizza from the oven just before your desired doneness and place the shredded basil on top. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Add a drizzle of grape seed or olive oil on the top to finish pizza, but remember, this adds more fat and calories.
- Stonefire flatbreads are unique in that you can freeze the entire package as the wrapper is designed for freezing!
